The acquisition of Piñata levels up the mobile game company’s creative storytelling and increases in-house capabilities for high-quality marketing production.
Mobile game Merge Mansion developer Metacore Games has acquired animation and illustration studio PinataHEL Oy, by purchasing 100% of Piñata’s shares.
Piñata has operated for 15 years as an illustration and animation studio, serving global brands in the fields of gaming, advertising and entertainment. They have developed their offering from single illustrations to full creative storytelling concepts and production.
Metacore has worked closely with Piñata since launching their first game, Merge Mansion, in 2020. The acquisition positions Metacore, one of Europe’s fastest-growing mobile game companies, increasingly as a game studio creating entertainment with great stories.
”Traditionally, mobile games have been apps on your phone. Our mission is to create entertainment with our games but also with our marketing and community building. Piñata brings us not only animation skills and capabilities, but creative storytelling both for our games and marketing,” Metacore’s CEO Mika Tammenkoski says.
“Piñata is our highly valued, long-term partner and is already an integral part of our marketing. Teaming up will benefit both parties.”
“Piñata has grown from visual producer to a creative storytelling partner. We have been involved in creating the story of Merge Mansion from the beginning and now we have the opportunity to deepen the collaboration with future new games, too. Together we will create a better future of mobile game storytelling,” Co-founder of Piñata Sari Tani comments.
The deal price and details are not publicly shared.
Metacore’s first mobile game Merge Mansion is a story-driven game, known for its strong narrative and captivating ads. Last week Metacore shared that Merge Mansion had surpassed 50 million downloads and announced the company’s expansion to Berlin.
